Hardly any other company in the shoe industry is currently being discussed as fiercely as the traditional Hamburg retailer Görtz. A year ago, Bolko Kissling came on board as a new investor and announced fairly quickly that he wanted to launch new concepts. Not everyone was convinced at the time that this was the right path for the company. Several expressed concerns that Kissling’s ideas were feasible and sustainable. Nevertheless, there was also a lot of support – after all, someone had ideas and wanted to make a difference while the industry was still struggling to emerge from the state of shock after the tough years of the pandemic.
Lifestyle stores with shoes and fashion, lounge shops with service offers, a changing selection and the possibility to view and order additional styles online, and the tried and tested family shoe store – these are to be the three new pillars of Görtz, according to Kissling.
Meanwhile, the mood among many suppliers has changed. Some say they have pulled the plug and are giving concrete reasons for doing so. Many people are asking whether the announcements from Hamburg could be followed by concrete implementation. So far, a new store has been opened in Munich. The online shop has been offline for weeks. There is a lot of irritation, among suppliers as well as competitors and external observers. This is not good for the shoe industry, which has still not emerged from the crisis. Unrest is the last thing that companies in trade and industry need.
