Scotch & Soda closes all stores in Germany
As the company’s provisional insolvency administrator, Holger Rhode, announced on August 29, the last day of sales in most stores will be next Saturday. Around five stores may remain open beyond this to sell remaining stock.
According to Rhode, the employees were informed of the plan on Tuesday of this week. Most of them will receive their notice in September. The owner of the rights to the brand and goods, a private equity fund in the USA, had no interest in transferring both to a new investor or agreeing a license, “Spiegel” quoted the provisional insolvency administrator as saying.
With regard to locations and personnel, talks are apparently underway with a fashion retailer. In the event of an investment, the retailer would have to come to an agreement with the landlords of the properties. Half of the locations are in Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia.
Scotch & Soda Retail GmbH, the German subsidiary of the Dutch fashion brand, filed for insolvency at the district court in Düsseldorf in June. The parent company in the Netherlands, which is also insolvent, had already ceased business operations some time ago.
