SpiceJet News: Empty plane takes off from Dubai, passengers were not allowed entry due to this reason – SpiceJet flies empty from Dubai as passengers denied check-in due to unpaid dues
SpiceJet News: SpiceJet, which provides low-cost airline services, is going through a lot of turmoil at this time. However, its problems increased further when it had to fly empty planes from Dubai. The reason for this was not that no passenger had booked tickets but the reason was that the passengers were not allowed entry. The passengers were stopped not by SpiceJet but by the airport due to outstanding dues. This has been revealed by a media report. SpiceJet is trying to get back on track completely and this is one of the long list of problems it has faced during these efforts.
This is not the first time this has happened
This is not the first time that SpiceJet passengers have faced such problems, but this has happened before as well and that too from Dubai. Earlier on August 2, SpiceJet flights had to be cancelled due to outstanding dues. According to a report by news agency PTI, the company had cited operational reasons for cancelling these flights. A SpiceJet spokesperson had said that passengers were given the option of taking other flights or getting a full refund. However, not all SpiceJet flights from Dubai are being cancelled.
DGCA now has extra monitoring on SpiceJet
After reports of flight cancellations and financial difficulties, the DGCA conducted a special audit of it about three weeks ago. Based on the airline’s past records and special audit, the DGCA says that now the number of spot checks / night surveillance will be increased for safe flying. However, the aviation regulatory body did not disclose what the problem was found. After this, the company temporarily gave three months’ leave to 150 employees. SpiceJet is also battling in court regarding dues and a request has been made to the DGCA to de-register its aircraft. This has put SpiceJet at risk of closure. Due to this, the company’s consolidated net profit fell 20 per cent year-on-year to Rs 158 crore in the June 2024 quarter. During this period, the company’s revenue also fell 15 per cent to Rs 1,708 crore.
