This time he has compared Rahul Gandhi with his late father Rajiv Gandhi. Pitroda has described Rahul as more intellectual and a better strategist than Rajiv Gandhi.
Longtime Gandhi family loyalist Sam Pitroda has described former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and his son Rahul Gandhi as custodians of the ‘Idea of India’. He said that Rahul Gandhi is more intelligent than his father Rajiv Gandhi and is also better at making strategies than him. In an interview to news agency PTI, Sam Pitroda asserted that Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, has all the qualities to become the Prime Minister. Pitroda, the president of the Indian Overseas Congress, dismissed the BJP’s allegations that Rahul had made comments critical of the Indian government during his previous foreign trips as false.

‘Rajiv and Rahul have the same DNA’
When asked about the similarities and differences between Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda said that he has worked with many Prime Ministers including Rajiv Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao, Manmohan Singh, VP Singh, Chandrashekhar and HD Deve Gowda. He said, ‘I got the opportunity to work very closely with many Prime Ministers, but the difference between Rahul and Rajiv is probably that Rahul is much more intelligent and a better strategist. Rajiv Gandhi believed more in work. Both have the same DNA. Their concerns and feelings for the people are also the same. They really believe in making a better India for everyone. They have no big personal ambitions.’

Sam Pitroda said that Rahul is a better strategist than his father Rajiv Gandhi. Both are leaders from different times, who faced different issues and whose experiences are also different. Poor Rahul had to face two big shocks in his life (death of his grandmother and his father). Therefore, he has faced different challenges. He said that the principles of Rahul and Rajiv have been very clear, both are custodians of the idea of India, which was envisioned by the Congress and every leader of the party believed in it. Pitroda said, ‘Narasimha Rao believed in it, (Mallikarjun) Kharge believes in it and collectively it is our job to build the India that our founders had envisioned.’ He claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s image is finally becoming what he is and the two ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ have helped in this.
Rahul Gandhi’s US visit
Regarding Rahul’s proposed visit to America next week, Pitroda said that he is not coming on an official visit to America, but during this time he will get a chance to talk to various people at Capitol Hill on a personal level. Pitroda further said that Rahul Gandhi will meet people from think tanks and will also address Georgetown University. Rahul will visit America for the first time after assuming the post of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He will be in America from 8 to 10 September, during which he will interact at Georgetown University and Texas University as well as hold many important meetings in Washington DC and Dallas.
