Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Protests are continuing to demand justice for the trainee doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata’s government RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last month. Meanwhile, a shocking update has emerged in the Kolkata case. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out the possibility of gangrape in the case. Citing evidence, the agency said that only accused Sanjay Roy was involved in the rape and murder that took place at RG Kar Hospital. According to News18, the CBI is preparing a “strong chargesheet” against the sole accused Sanjay Roy, ruling out the possibility of gangrape in the death of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

However, nothing has been said officially by the agency so far. Sources said that the investigation of the case is almost complete. The CBI will soon take the next step in the case with charges.

Sanjoy Roy, who was arrested on August 10, a day after the alleged murder, was found at the crime scene with a Bluetooth headset inside the seminar hall. Roy, 33, was a civic volunteer who was reportedly allowed free access to the state-run hospital. On August 23, Roy was sent to 14-day judicial custody. Kolkata Police arrested him on August 10. The trainee doctor’s body was found in the seminar hall on the fourth floor of RG Kar Hospital a day earlier.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien on Friday questioned the CBI over the status of the chargesheet in the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case. “When will the CBI file a chargesheet in the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case and when will the trial against the accused begin? When?” he posted on social media site X.

For the past few days, Trinamool Congress has been demanding the CBI to file a chargesheet as soon as possible. The Calcutta High Court had handed over the investigation of the 9 August case from Kolkata Police to the CBI. The police had arrested the main accused in the case, Sanjay Roy, after the 9 August incident.
