Former Kolkata Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and Tala police station station house officer (SHO) Abhijit Mandal, arrested in the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case, have been sent to CBI custody till September 17. In the case filed against the two, the investigating agency has accused them of delaying the registration of an FIR and tampering with evidence in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at a government health facility on August 9.

In a separate case related to alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Hospital, Ghosh was already in CBI custody and had undergone a polygraph test.

This comes amid a protest by junior doctors outside the West Bengal health department headquarters in Kolkata, which has entered six days.

The agitating doctors are still adamant on their demand of removal of top government officials, top police officials and justice for the trainee doctor.

The body of the 31-year-old trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital on August 9. The autopsy report revealed that she was brutally raped before being murdered. During the initial investigation, Kolkata Police arrested a civil volunteer, Sanjoy Roy, who confessed to the crime.
