Former Cabinet minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Anil Vij on Sunday demanded that he be made the Chief Minister of Haryana if his party wins the upcoming assembly elections. Notably, the six-time MLA’s remarks come at a time when the party has already made it clear that if the BJP returns to power, Naib Singh Saini will be the Chief Minister.
Addressing reporters, Vij said he was the senior-most BJP MLA in Haryana and had never asked for anything from the party.
Anil Vij said, “I am the most senior BJP MLA in Haryana. I have contested elections 6 times. On the demand of the people, this time I will claim the CM post on the basis of my seniority.”

He said, “However, it is in the hands of the high command whether they will make me the CM or not. If they make me the CM, I will change the picture of Haryana.”
The BJP leader is contesting again from the Ambala Cantt seat and filed his nomination for a record ninth time this week.
In May this year, Vij had said that he was being sidelined in his party and was being treated like a “stranger”.
Vij, who handled the Home, Health, AYUSH and Medical Education and Research departments in the cabinet of former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, has been upset ever since the party made Nayab Singh Saini the new CM.
