Schuhhaus Walder celebrates 150 years

On October 1, 1974, the Swiss company Walder was founded as a shoe factory. 150 years later, the same company – in a completely different guise – is celebrating its big anniversary. As the retailer Schuhhaus Walder in Brüttisellen, the company has “hardly anything in common” with the original idea, according to the shoe store. Walder has remained a family business through and through: Since its founding, a total of 20 family members have been responsible for running the shoe store. And together with his two sisters Martina Walder and Sandra Furger, Daniel Walder is now the 6th generation to run the company.

“For every trend there is also a counter-trend,” says the shoe store in view of the current market situation. While online trading and numerous closures as well as the departure of traditional stores are putting pressure on the industry, Schuhhaus Walder can continue to hold its own in the difficult environment. By adapting to the increasing e-commerce environment and simultaneously investing in stationary retail, the company has developed to its current size of 28 stores in German-speaking Switzerland.
