According to the Reuters news agency, investigations have been launched against Infinite Styles Services CO Limited, based in Dublin. This company manages Shein’s website and app for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The investigation is examining whether general, vague or misleading environmental statements are intended to convey a false picture of the production and sustainability of the garments. The antitrust authority is referring to the information material on the Evolushein collection, which would give a false impression about the sustainability of the materials and fails to inform that the garments are not recyclable. In addition, the Shein website emphasizes a commitment to decarbonization, which, however, contradicts the increase in greenhouse gas emissions in Shein’s sustainability reports for 2022 and 2023.
According to Reuters, Shein said it was willing to cooperate openly with the Italian authorities and provide all necessary information.
