Self-custody of payments with Lightning will not require a node thanks to this tool

Boltz, the non-custodial platform that acts as a bridge between different layers of Bitcoin (BTC), announced today, September 26, the launch of the plugin Boltz BTCPay.

This update, which is available at open betaallows the Merchants using BTCPay Server accept payments via Lightning Network (LN) without the need to trust third parties for the custody of funds.

Upon payment, merchant funds are automatically stored on the Liquid network (a sidechain about Bitcoin).

The launch of plugin Boltz BTCPay has a key feature called “Nodeless.” Using the technology provided by the application Liquid Swaps (an atomic swap into the Liquid network) performs the automatic swap of LN assets to Liquid at the time an LN invoice is paid.

This process can be executed by merchants without having to set up and maintain your own Bitcoin nodes or Lightningwhich simplifies the procedure for accepting payments and managing funds.

With Liquid Swaps, users who use the plugin Boltz BTCPay they can also convert BTC back to the mainnet. In addition, the plugin includes a system of wallet integrated, allowing users to create or import wallets from both Liquid and the main chain.

Boltz facilitates exchanges and payments between Bitcoin layers without intermediaries, while BTCPay Server is a payment processor that allows merchants to accept payments in bitcoin and cryptocurrencies without depending on third parties, maintaining control over the funds.

Thus, the collaboration between Boltz and BTCPay Server, through the launch of the new pluginoffers other benefits.

Another notable feature is the flexibility in fund management. Merchants can transfer their funds to the sidechain Liquid, which allows them take advantage of features of this network such as confidential transactionss. A “confidential transaction” refers to a transaction in which the amounts and types of assets transferred are hidden, but the addresses of the parties sending and receiving payments remain visible.

This update would also bring an increase in the use of Lightning Network, which would help reduce congestion on the Bitcoin main chain. This results in lower transaction fees and faster confirmation times, improving overall network efficiency.

However, Boltz made it clear in his announcement that this launch is in beta stage (test) so Errors may occur when trying to use this mechanism.

“We have called today’s release “Open Beta.” Although we have performed careful testing and disabled features that were known to have problems or that had not been sufficiently tested, we cannot guarantee that there will be no errors.”

So the integration between Boltz and BTCPay Server could offer a possible solution to accept Lightning payments in a non-custodial mannerimproving scalability, reducing costs and providing greater flexibility in fund management for Bitcoin users.
