The adaptive kidswear collection includes 29 items from Zalando’s own brands Friboo and Yourturn Kids. The collection is basic-heavy and is intended to cover the basic fashion needs of disabled children. The garments have different adaptive functions. When designing adaptive fashion, Zalando distinguishes between five features: more comfortable to wear, fit when sitting in a wheelchair, simpler fasteners, suitability for prostheses and bandages and effortless dressing. Markus Breitsameter, Team Lead Design Textiles at Zalando, explains: “In addition to individual needs, which can vary from child to child, we also thought about parents, relatives and caregivers when designing the collection and took their feedback into account. Although our clothing gives children the opportunity to dress themselves, it also helps parents to dress their children – which they often have to do several times a day. Small details make a big difference: for example, a wide neck opening to make it easier to pull a T-shirt over the child’s head, a few extra buttons to open trousers further, or a discreet opening to make it easier to access a port catheter or stoma.” The collection is sold in multipacks with different models. True to the design principle of “Style First”, the adaptive clothing is intended to integrate the functions unobtrusively and with an elegant look.
