The biggest mystery about Bitcoin is exposed to the world today

  • The production is awaited with skepticism by the bitcoiner community.

  • Appearing on screen are Adam Back, Samson Mow and Roger Ver, among others.

Satoshi Nakamoto conceptualized Bitcoin (BTC), designed it, programmed it, and activated the network in January 2009. Two years after its launch, the person (or people) behind the pseudonym disappeared without leaving a trace.

From that moment the myth was born about the identity and whereabouts of who, today, would be one of the richest people in the world. There are many theories that have been woven around who Satoshi Nakamoto could be.

In that frenzy to discover it, individuals like Craig Wright have appeared, who called himself the creator of bitcoin, or others who have been wrongly pointed out, as was the case with Dorian Nakamoto.

The labyrinth would be unraveled tonight at 9:00 pm (Eastern time in the United States) with the premiere of the documentary “Money Electric, The Bitcoin Mystery”, an HBO production directed by Cullen Hoback and lasting 1 hour and 40 minutes. The premiere will be through the MAX streaming service.

The entertainment platform itself defines the documentary as “an exciting, globe-spanning investigation, with Hoback diving into the key players, uncovering never-before-seen clues, and humorously unraveling the meteoric rise of Bitcoin.”

Among the personalities who make life in the cryptocurrency ecosystem that appear in the production, the following stand out: Adam Back, founder of Blockstream; Samson Mow, CEO of JAN3; the developer Peter Todd and Roger Ver, the most visible head of Bitcoin Cash. The Mexican bitcoiner entrepreneur Ricardo Salinas Pliego also appears, among others.

Skepticism and possible identity of Satoshi Nakamoto

After the announcement of the premiere of the documentary, the bitcoiner community has shown skepticism. CriptoNoticias reported on Thursday, October 3, the opinions of multiple users, one of them was BitcoinMotorist who commented: «I don’t know who Satoshi is, but I do know who he is not. “Anyone who appears in this documentary is not Satoshi.”

The point of view of Kyleredfearn96 was the same, who expressed: «So, they think that Adam Back is Satoshi. Nothing new here. It has been speculated before. Could be. “It’s hard to believe they have any new, unknown evidence.”

HBO’s potential reveal is serving as fuel for predictive markets. In Polymarket, users give as a possible candidate to be revealed as Satoshi the developer Len Sassaman who was a cypherpunk expert in cryptography, privacy activist and a pioneer in his specialty. Sassaman died on July 3, 2011, at age 31, after committing suicide possibly motivated by depression.
