Deichmann buys Esprit trademark rights – schuhkurier
Now the deal has been successful: As the Funke media group reports, the Essen-based shoe retailer can also use the newly acquired trademark rights for fashion. The company also receives the rights to patterns for the collection, but apparently does not want to use them itself, but instead wants to outsource them to third parties.
Deichmann has been working with the Esprit brand since 2019 and was most recently the licensee for the shoe collections. Since S/S 2020, Deichmann has been offering specially developed models from Esprit in its stores. These differed from the wholesale collections that Esprit initially continued to bring onto the market. It recently became known that Deichmann was interested in the trademark rights to Esprit.
Insolvency proceedings were opened for Esprit with effect from August 1st. In addition to Esprit Europe GmbH, six other German group companies of the company were also affected.
According to a report in the newspaper “Die Welt”, a one-off amount in the double-digit million range will be due for the trademark rights – Deichmann will no longer have to pay license fees for this in the future.
