Washington. A few days before voting in the American state of Iowa, US Vice President Kamala Harris has left former President Donald Trump behind in a survey. These recent figures are surprising political pundits because Iowa was already considered a safe state for Republicans. According to the Selzer poll conducted by the Des Moines Register newspaper, Harris is leading over her rival Trump by three points. It is worth noting that Iowa is not one of the seven battleground states for the 2024 elections and the state has voted in favor of Trump in 2016 and 2020.
Polling experts don’t pay much attention to an individual survey, but Selzer is considered a reputable polling organization with a good record in Iowa. According to the survey, Harris has 47 percent support among potential voters, while Trump has 44 percent support. However, meanwhile, a September survey by the same organization showed Trump with a four-point lead over Harris, while a June survey showed him with an 18-point lead over then-candidate President Joe Biden.
Will Iowa go blue?
It’s too early to say whether the state of Iowa will turn blue, but the latest data has surprised many. “No one thought this would happen,” pollster Jay Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., told the Register. She has clearly moved into a dominant position. Interestingly, this poll states that women are driving this change towards Harris in the state. Actually, states supporting Republicans are called Red (Red) and states supporting Democrats are called Blue (Blue).
As soon as the survey was released, most of the experts and survey takers were shocked and surprised. However, it was also reported that according to a rival survey group, Trump was still leading in Iowa. David Axelrod, a former top aide to former US President Barack Obama, said, “This is a shocking survey, but Ann Selzer has as excellent a record in predicting election results as any other pollster. Women are fueling this surge. Signal for the country?”
Iowa Poll: Kamala Harris pulls ahead in state Donald Trump won twice
This is a stunning poll. But Ann Seltzer has as stellar a record as any pollster of forecasting election outcomes in her state.
Women are powering this surge. Portents for the country?? https://t.co/CNJfcQKXja—David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) November 2, 2024
