The days of Galeria at Alexanderplatz in Berlin are apparently numbered: the property is to be extensively renovated and given a new use. According to a report from the BZ, there were discussions with the landlord Commerz Real in mid-September that the central and state libraries could move into the building. The idea of a mixed use of library and department store was also said to have been discussed, but rejected. Apparently the Galeria management was informed about the project, but wanted to continue operating the location. Further negotiations are said to have taken place in October. The result is apparently that Galeria will move out of the property at the end of next year. However, there is still apparently the possibility of mixed use of the property. However, media reports talk about smaller retail spaces on just one level.
Out for Galeria am Alex?
