Puma included in Laureus Sport for Goods Index

The index highlights organizations and companies that want to make a positive difference and thereby prove that sport can play an important role in promoting sustainable development. The companies included in the index are characterized by special campaigns and initiatives that have been implemented in the last 18 months.

Astin Ewington, Head of Partnerships, Laureus, said: “We are delighted to launch the Laureus Sport for Good Index 2024, which continues to demonstrate the immense potential of sport to bring about positive change. The companies presented this year are addressing the world’s most pressing social and environmental challenges with their initiatives. We hope that with our index we can inspire more companies to use sport as a platform to achieve positive results and contribute to a fairer and more sustainable future.”

Puma initiatives recognized by the Index include “Voice of a Re:Generation.” Here Puma works with four young activists and environmentalists from Generation Z. They produce social media content to help make younger consumers aware of Puma’s sustainability goals.

According to Puma, the textile-to-textile recycling program “Re:Fibre” aims to reduce textile waste and use fewer plastic bottles as a source material for recycled polyester. In 2023, a total of 46,000 textiles were produced with Re:Fibre. With the start of the 2024-25 soccer season, the company announced that it will produce millions of replica soccer jerseys using Re:Fibre.

This year, the Herzogenaurach-based sports provider launched a commercial version of the Re:Suede sneaker. Previously, Puma said it had demonstrated in 2023 as part of a two-year pilot project that it was able to successfully turn the shoe into compost under tailored industrial conditions. If it can no longer be worn, it can be returned to Puma. The company then sends the sneaker to a company in the Netherlands for composting.
