With the Toe Pilot technology, Joe Nimble underlines its position in the field of running shoes with toe freedom, the company says. “We are increasingly seeing that the big brands are also following our argument and are focusing on the big toe when it comes to running stability,” explains Joe Nimble founder and CEO Sebastian Bär. “In the foreseeable future the question will come: ‘Who invented it?’ And we wanted to be able to prove unequivocally: ‘Joe Nimble did it!’”
From the company’s perspective, the Toe Pilot represents nothing less than a quantum leap in running shoe technology. The design was developed to optimally support the natural function of the big toe. This is a crucial factor in the push-off phase of running, where two to three times your body weight is placed on the big toe. This innovation is particularly important for runners who have already developed a runner’s hallux (hallux valgus -8° or more). According to studies, this is around two thirds of all runners worldwide. In conventional running shoes you cannot exploit your full power potential in the propulsion phase. With the Toe Pilot, a misalignment of the big toe can be efficiently compensated for.
Sebastian Bär and the English coach and biomechanist Lee Saxby have built up a knowledge base about the natural functionality of the big toe and its optimal support in running shoes. “Our philosophy goes far beyond the now recognized advantages of toe freedom,” explains Sebastian Bär. “We combine the natural toe freedom that we have been promoting since the early 80s with the revolutionary Toe Pilot technology.” Joe Nimble wants to optimize the running experience by activating the natural big toe function. With the patent on the Toe Pilot, another important step has now been taken in this direction.
