India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations posted on social media platform “X” on Thursday that India has been re-elected as a member of the United Nations Peacekeeping Commission (PBC) for the period 2025-2026.

India is a founding member of the committee

The statement further said, “As a founding member and major contributor to United Nations peacekeeping operations, India is committed to continuing to cooperate with the People’s Bank of China and working for global peace and stability.” The PBC has 31 member states and is governed by the United Nations General Assembly, the Security Council and the Economic Council. and elected by the Social Council. The largest financial contributor and largest troop contributor to the United Nations system is also a member.

India is one of the largest military and police contributors to United Nations peacekeeping forces. India currently has around 6,000 military and police personnel deployed in Abyei, Central African Republic, Cyprus, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lebanon, Middle East, Somalia, South Sudan and Western Sahara as part of UN operations. Nearly 180 Indian peacekeepers died in the line of duty during peacekeeping operations, making the greatest sacrifice, the most among any other country.
