Grimmway Farms has also voluntarily recalled carrots from stores in Canada and Puerto Rico, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The use-by date of the purchased organic carrots was from August 14 to October 23. While the use date of the recalled baby carrots was from September 11 to November 12.
Grimmway Farms, based in California, said in a press release on Saturday that the company is reviewing its farming and harvesting practices and is working closely with authorities. Earlier this company was family owned. In 2020, it was sold to private equity firm Tees River Investments.
What is Escherichia coli?
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a bacteria. According to the CDC, most forms live in the intestines of humans and animals, and are harmless. But there are some people whose consumption can be fatal. This may cause gastrointestinal diseases. Symptoms of E. coli include dehydration, bloody diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and fever. It appears two to eight days after infection. Most people recover without treatment after five to seven days. In rare cases, it has been found to be fatal in the elderly and children under 5 years of age.
