Second-hand is not only becoming more popular for gifts. A study commissioned by the second-hand platform Vinted examined the acceptance of second-hand luxury items. It turned out that over half of those surveyed have already bought second-hand luxury items or are considering doing so. The reason given by the majority (56.6%) was that the items are simply more affordable on the used market. 27.9% said that sustainability considerations are crucial. 22% of those surveyed see the advantage of being able to find vintage pieces and other rare items through second-hand shopping. Cécile Wickmann, Senior Director of Luxury at Vinted, says: “It’s nice to see that more and more people are getting used to the idea of giving away personal and unique second-hand pieces. This shows that prejudices against pre-loved items are disappearing and openness to them is growing.”
