The sports company Puma has announced a cooperation with the Finnish company Spinnova. This specializes primarily in innovative textile materials. In the future, products and collections made from the wood-based Spinnova fiber will be designed and used in the sport style sector.
The cooperation primarily affects Spinnova’s joint venture company Woodspin Oy, which is the manufacturer of Spinnova fibers. The partnership will now last several years in order to secure material quantities, explains Puma. This is intended to reserve Woodspin’s product capacity.
“Spinnova’s innovative fiber technology represents a new entry into the world of cellulosic fibers (MMCF) by using water instead of chemicals to produce these fibers,” said Howard Williams, Director Global Innovation Apparel & Accessories at Puma.
“We are very pleased to announce this Spinnova fiber collaboration with a major global brand like Puma,” said Shariare Mahmood, Spinnova’s Chief Product and Sustainability Officer. “It is an important step in building the market and industrial use of Spinnova fiber needed to scale up. It is just the beginning and we will continue to work with Woodspin to sign similar agreements with other partners.”
