Trump has threatened to impose heavy tariffs on Chinese goods, but despite this he invited Xi to his inauguration. Trump is considered a strong opponent of China. It is scheduled to be held on the West Front of the US Capitol.
Xi Jinping’s invitation has been confirmed
Carolyn Levitt, Trump’s incoming press secretary, confirmed on Thursday that Trump had invited Xi, but said it was “yet to be determined” whether the leader of America’s most important economic and military rival would attend the conference. “This is an example of President Trump having open conversations with leaders of countries that are not only our allies, but our adversaries and competitors as well,” Levitt said in an appearance on Fox News.
Trump called the heads of state of many countries
He added: “We saw that in his first term… He is ready to talk to anyone and will always put America’s interests first.” Levitt said other foreign leaders were also invited, but did not provide details.
