HDE: Associations are calling for a rethinking of economic policy

In a joint statement on the occasion of the vote of confidence, the association, together with 18 other business associations, called for an election campaign that focuses on strengthening Germany as a business location.
“The Chancellor’s vote of confidence must be followed by an election campaign that recognizes the key challenges facing the economy and rethinks economic policy,” said HDE President Alexander von Preen. It is overdue to systematically address the reduction in bureaucracy and create the framework conditions for Germany to be a successful business location. “The large number of documentation and reporting obligations has significantly limited the scope for entrepreneurial action in recent years. What is therefore needed is deregulation at national and European levels. The state is not the better entrepreneur, but is responsible for ensuring freedom of competition and competitiveness,” emphasizes von Preen.

“The economy must come into focus during the election campaign. Only with a reoriented economic policy can Germany remain attractive as a business and investment location,” continued von Preen.

The 19 business associations are calling for, among other things, a comprehensive reduction in bureaucracy, internationally competitive energy prices and a more flexible labor law.
