Leguano cooperates with Trier University of Applied Sciences

As part of the project, a 27-person student research group led by Prof. Harald Steber (communication design) and Prof. Christian Bruns (fashion design course) devoted themselves to the characteristics of barefoot walking with regard to the right footwear. For this purpose, various existing Leguano models were examined according to the criteria of product, communication and packaging. The students were concerned with detailed questions about sustainability, brand building and awareness, as well as visions of design. “Of the 27 students, seven guest students from the USA and Ireland were also involved,” says Professor Steber. “21 presentations emerged from this international constellation, all in the spirit of Generation Z. Naturalness, healthy exercise and compatibility with individual lifestyles were important for all students.”

According to the company, a modern further development of the first Leguano barefoot shoe from 2009 by Merle Körschkes was particularly impressive, as were the designs by Kelly Azevedo and Nils Krämer on the function and aesthetics of the packaging as well as the visualization of sole flexibility and environmental reference. The two winning concepts were each honored with 500 euros at a celebratory, digital awards ceremony.

“All the works impressed us in their own way,” says Heidi Hintereck, Managing Director of Leguano GmbH. “In addition to the valuable food for thought for future product developments, what we take with us is, above all, the motivating experience that so many different characters from a number of cultural circles are enthusiastically dedicated to barefoot (shoe) walking and not only recognize a promising future, but also with their ideas wished for.”
This cooperation was a benefit and a valuable experience for both sides, and we would like to stay in touch in the future. This culture of cooperation and creativity is truly a symbol of “innovative power made in Rhineland-Palatinate”.
