What is the US deep state?
The term, coined in the 1990s, became popular during President Donald Trump’s first term. Several particularly serious allegations have been leveled against the deep state regarding Russia’s collusion in the US elections. Trump himself has blamed the “deep state” for this. According to American political conspiracy theory, the deep state is a secret network of members of the federal government (specifically within the FBI and CIA) who work closely with high-level financial and industrial entities and politicians so that power can be exercised with them or within the elected United States government.
How did the term deep state originate?
The term deep state originated in the 1990s in reference to the alleged deep state that has long existed in Turkey, but has also come to be used to refer to the United States government, including during the Obama administration. Polls conducted in 2017 and 2018 show that nearly half of Americans believe there is a deep state in the country.
Former Ronald Reagan administration official Dr. Paul Craig Roberts She wrote on her website that the deep state is “entrenched and institutionalized” within the US government, and has many ways to manipulate or obstruct the president’s efforts.
Wall Street analysts Charles Ortel It highlighted the role of deep state agents within the FBI, Department of Justice, and other federal agencies in concealing the U.S. government’s illegal activities. He described how whistleblowers are often ignored or silenced and how evidence harmful to the country’s interests disappears.
American peace movement activists Jan R. Weinberg He described the deep state as being run by powerful defense contractors. He even claimed that people connected to the military and the arms trade in the country have more power than the president. The deep state also ensures that American policy remains unchanged.
What did Putin say about the American deep state?
In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson in February 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin mentioned the deep state while speaking about challenges in negotiations with the American leadership. “I have already spoken with three American presidents,” Putin told French journalists in May 2017. He said, “They come and go, but the politics stay the same. Do you know why? Because of the powerful bureaucracy. When someone is elected, he might have some ideas. Then he takes away people with briefcases who come to meet, smartly dressed and in dark suits.” …These people explain to the president what he should do.” Putin further said: “We are ready to talk. But with whom? What are the guarantees? There are no guarantees.”
The deep state is only about money
The mysterious entity known as the Deep State is difficult to define, both its structure and its decision-makers. Lily Ferriol-Pratt, a project assistant/researcher at the BRICS Research Institute at Durban University of Technology in South Africa, defines the deep state as “essentially a philosophy in which a few people benefit at the expense of the majority, and which is implemented illegally.” It is expressed in a variety of ways.” It traces its origins to the creation of the US Federal Reserve System, which was given the power to print money. These deep states in cooperation with the government make a lot of money and spend some of it for the benefit of their beneficiaries, which the government cannot legally do.
