Goa Boat Accident: One person died when a boat carrying tourists capsized in the Arabian Sea off Calangute beach in North Goa on Wednesday, December 25. 20 others aboard the boat were rescued. Police gave this information. Police said that this incident happened at around 1.30 in the afternoon. “A 54-year-old man died after the boat capsized, while 20 others were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment,” a senior police officer said. He said that except two passengers, all the others were wearing life jackets.
Women and a six-month-old child were also among the passengers. A spokesman for Drishti Marine, the government’s oak-appointed lifeboat agency, said the boat capsized about 60 meters from the beach and all the passengers aboard fell into the sea.
He said that 13 people from a family from Khed in Maharashtra were also aboard the boat. Seeing the boat capsizing, an employee of ‘Drishti Marine’ took immediate steps to help.
“A total of 18 lifeboat personnel arrived to help the passengers and brought them safely to shore,” he said. The spokesperson said that the injured passengers were given first aid while the seriously injured were taken to the medical center by ambulance.
He said 20 passengers were rescued and admitted to hospital. Those rescued also include two children, aged six and seven years.
