Authorities in Ethiopia said on Monday that the death toll from a road accident in the south of the country has risen to at least 71.
Sidama regional government spokesman Vosenleh Simion told Reuters news agency that the dead included 68 men and three women.
“The condition of five is critical and they are undergoing treatment at Bona General Hospital,” he said.
He said many of the passengers were returning from a wedding ceremony and some families had lost several members.
What else have officials said?
The crash occurred in Sidama state, about 300 kilometers (180 miles) south of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
Local police said the truck left the road at around 5:30 pm local time (1430 GMT/UTC) and fell into the river.
Vosenyeleh said it appeared the truck missed crossing a bridge in an area with windy roads.
Ethiopia is one of the most populous countries in Africa and road accidents are relatively common there.
