Maha Kumbh Mela 2025: The Uttar Pradesh government has started a ration scheme at concessional prices for Akharas, institutions and Kalpavasis during the Maha Kumbh to be held in Prayagraj next month. Under this, flour will be given at Rs 5 per kg and rice at Rs 6 per kg. As per the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, 138 shops have been set up in the fair area for smooth distribution. This is the first time that in Mahakumbh, ration facilities are being provided to Akharas, institutions and Kalpavasis on such a large scale at nominal cost.
Chief Minister Yogi, who is dedicated to making Maha Kumbh grand and visible, has directed the officials to make comprehensive arrangements paying special attention to the food needs of the devotees. The government is arranging 1.2 lakh white ration cards for Kalpavasis to access subsidized goods. Kalpawasis, Akharas and institutions will get the benefit of significant reduction in the prices of essential commodities.
Sugar will be available for Rs 18
Flour will be available at Rs 5 per kg, rice at Rs 6 per kg and sugar at Rs 18 per kg, a statement said. Apart from this, the government has allotted 800 permits to Akharas and institutions. Apart from concessional ration, CM Yogi has ensured extensive food cooking facilities during the Mahakumbh. Agencies have been appointed in all 25 sectors to provide new gas connections to Kalpavasis, Akharas and institutions as well as provide uninterrupted refilling services.
Kalpavasi with empty gas cylinders can also avail the facility of refilling. To meet different needs, special arrangements have been made to keep three types of gas cylinders – 5 kg, 14.2 kg and 19 kg. To ensure food supply to all, 138 fair price shops have been set up in the Mahakumbh area.

Besides this, five food storage warehouses have been prepared, storing 6,000 MT flour, 4,000 MT rice and 2,000 MT sugar. The purpose of these facilities is to protect the Akharas, Kalpavasis and institutions from any kind of inconvenience. Under this initiative, each Kalpvasi will be given 3 kg flour, 2 kg rice and 1 kg sugar. This ration facility will be available from January to the end of February.
‘One Nation One Card’ scheme will also be implemented to ensure reach to all eligible beneficiaries. To further streamline the distribution process, 100 quintals of goods have been kept in each shop to meet the daily needs of the participants. It is ready to welcome 45 crore devotees coming to the world’s largest religious event ‘Maha Kumbh 2025’.
