Bitcoin outperforms major assets for the 11th year

  • BTC price ended 2024 up 120%.

  • In addition to bitcoin, the Ethereum cryptocurrency registered a greater rise than the Nasdaq and gold.

With the arrival of 2025, 2024 has become history, demonstrating another success for the bitcoin (BTC) market. As has become customary, the digital currency ended another year outperforming the main asset classes.

According to data from the last 14 years, 2024 is the 11th year that bitcoin outperforms all major asset classes. And not only that, but their appreciation surpasses them by a wide margin.

Bitcoin ended 2024 with a valuation of USD 120%, going from trading around 43,000 to 94,000 dollars (USD). This result occurs despite its decline from the historical maximum of USD 108,000 that it registered a fortnight ago, in mid-December.

Bitcoin’s rise in 2024 is five times greater than that seen by both gold and the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) and S&P 500 (SPX) indices.which compile the main US stocks. These recorded an annual increase of around 25%.

Meanwhile, other asset classes, such as bonds and commoditieshave ended the year with even lower performance. This can be seen in the following graph made by the research firm Creative Planning.

In addition to BTC, ETH also outperformed gold and Nasdaq

There are altcoins (cryptocurrencies that are not bitcoin) that also stood out this year, outperforming the main asset classes. Among them is ether (ETH) from the Ethereum network, the crypto asset with the highest capitalization after BTC.

Trading at USD 3,300, ETH ended 2024 with a price increase of almost 50%. This occurs despite the fact that its price remains 30% below its historical maximum of USD 4,900, recorded in 2021.

There are even altcoins that closed 2024 with a higher performance than bitcoin. At the moment, BTC is in the place 25 of the 100 largest crypto assets with the best performance in the last year.

It is common to see better performances of altcoins than bitcoin given their bullish trends due to the expansion of enthusiasm. Furthermore, due to their lower capitalization, they have a higher volatility that favors this scenario.

This scenario has taken place as more investment portfolios integrate bitcoin as a strategic asset and even Donald Trump, who will assume the presidency of the United States this month, intends to do the same for government reserves. Regarding this, as reported by CriptoNoticias, bullish expectations for 2025 remain.
