In an interview with the German Press Agency, HDE President Alexander von Preen said that the upcoming federal election could provide a boost for consumer sentiment and trade. “The federal election can act like a champagne cork,” he was quoted as saying. “If we have framework conditions again where people say: ‘Yes, now things are going in one direction, now we can see where we want to go’, then that will be a totally liberating situation and bring a lot of dynamism into the market.” The Society needs reliability and stability so that trade can flourish again. He therefore warns against long coalition negotiations that would prevent this upswing: “I have great hope that everyone has understood that we cannot allow ourselves to form a government for a long time. Then nobody buys, then nobody invests, and then the entire system is somewhat disrupted.”
