Puma sues new Tiger Woods brand

According to the German shoe manufacturer Puma, the logo of Tiger Woods’ Sun Day Red brand is very similar to that of its own company. For this reason, Puma objected to the logo earlier this year. This is to prevent the Taylor Made-owned golf brand from using the clothing line with the current logo. The Puma has been the company’s brand logo since 1969.

“Due to the confusing similarity of the marks and the parties’ legally identical or closely related goods and services, confusion between the challenged marks and the Leaping Cat logo is likely,” Puma said in the lawsuit. Puma isn’t the only company to object to the logo: Sports equipment maker Tigeraire also filed a lawsuit in September 2024, saying Sun Day Red had “illegally hijacked” the design. The objection is currently still being heard in court.

At the brand launch, the star golfer explained that the logo featured a leaping tiger with 15 stripes – the number of Mahor championships won in his career. He introduced the brand last year when it was announced that the 27-year collaboration with Nike was coming to an end.
