Syrian authorities foiled an attempt by the so-called “Islamic State” (IS) group to attack a Shia Muslim shrine in a southern suburb of Damascus, state news agency SANA reported on Saturday.
Intelligence and security forces “succeeded in foiling an IS attempt to bomb the inside of the Sayyida Zainab shrine,” the report said, citing a source in Syria’s intelligence agency.
The source said the suspected IS members who planned the attack have been arrested.
