The X Second Foundation account mimicked a recent message from the Ethereum Foundation.
The publication of the new account brought both approval and surprise to Ethereum users.
Today, January 22, 2025, members of the Ethereum (ETH) community saw the creation of an alleged parallel body to the E Foundation founder of Lido and P2P. org, creates a “Second Foundation” for Ethereum.thereum (EF). In other words, a second EF could be being born. The creator of it has been identified as Konstantin Lomashuk, who is the founder of Lido and P2P. org.
Suspicions about this new organization arose after the creation of a new account on the social network X with the name “Second Foundation” and some members of the Ethereum ecosystem echoing this fact.
From Second Foundation, they posted a post with the message “hello world computer” (“hello world computer”), imitating what was done by the account under the pseudonym “Ethereum Foundation”, which since January 13, 2025 had become the official account of this organization in X.
Among the reactions of users who responded to this publication, many were enthusiastic, while others were surprised by the announcement. In addition, other Ethereum participants, and in response to the Second Foundation, seemed to have received this announcement with greater pessimism, expressing messages such as «ETH forking?” either “They forked Ethereum Foundation!!«.
In the context of a cryptocurrency network, a “fork» refers to a division of the blockchain into two different paths. By using these expressions, users could be suggesting that the creation of a Second Ethereum Foundation would lead to a split of the Ethereum project itself, resulting in two different versions of Ethereum.
At the time of this article, this Second Ethereum Foundation has almost 10 thousand followers, including several Ethereum participants and developers, as well as other members of the cryptocurrency community, such as Cardano (ADA) network co-founder Charles Hoskinson.
Why would they create a Second Ethereum Foundation?
CriptoNoticias has reported this week several circumstances that are creating a tense environment within the Ethereum community.
Currently there are several debates within the ecosystem of the network created by Vitalik Buterin. Among them, one on how the Ethereum Foundation manages funds and what use it gives to its ether reserves, token native of the chain. In this sense, many users reproach this organization that its sales would be negatively affecting the price of ether.
On the other hand, community participants have been suggesting, for several days, a change in the leadership of the EF. In particular, the resignation of its current director and her replacement by developer Danny Ryan. This last point led Vitalik himself, upon insistence, to explode against the Ethereum community itself.
Third, other members of the community discuss how to improve the efficiency and scalability of the Ethereum main network, to the detriment of continuing to work on improvements to its second layer (L2) networks.
In this way, while the Ethereum community debates relevant aspects of its structure, some of its members seem to be dissatisfied with the actions of the EF, which is why they would be creating a Second Foundation.
