US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he could impose sanctions on Russia if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to talk about ending the war in Ukraine.
Trump did not provide any details on possible additional sanctions. The United States has already imposed heavy sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Trump said his administration is also considering the issue of sending arms to Ukraine, adding that he thinks the EU should do more to support Ukraine.
“We are talking [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky; “We’re going to talk to President Putin soon,” Trump said.
Trump said he had pressed Chinese President Xi Jinping to intervene to stop the Ukraine war.
“He hasn’t done much on it. He has a lot of power, just like we have a lot of power. I said, ‘You should figure it out.’ We discussed it.”
