Madison Keys wins the Grand Slam Trophy for the first time – DW – 01/25/2025

The United States’s Madison Keys won its first Grand Slam title on Saturday, defeating two -time defending Champion Aryana Sabalenka of Belarus in the Australian Open final at Melbourne Park.

The 29-year-old American tennis player, who was ranked 14th and was ranked 19th, matches in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

Celebrating her victory, Keys hugged her husband Byorn Fratangelo, who is her coach since 2023.

This is the first major title for Keys, and only his second Grand Slam final. Eight years ago, she came second in the US Open after losing to Slone Stephens.

The first winning keys for Flevia Peneteta is the oldest woman for the first time at the 2015 US Open, when the latter was 33.

“I wanted it for so long,” Keys said, “and I am in another Grand Slam final, and it didn’t go in my way, and I didn’t know if I was going to come back to this situation. “

Disappointment for Sabalenka

After the final, Belarusian defending champion Sabalenka threw her racket in a clear frustration.

“It was not my day,” he said after the match.

Keys prevented Sabalenka from winning, which will be her third consecutive female title in the Australian Open and her fourth major title in total.

The men’s final of the Australian Open is on Sunday, which is beating the Defected Champion Jannik Sinner against Alexander Zeverev.

Sinner abolished American Ben Shelton in the semi -finals, while Zeverev advanced when Serbia’s 24 -time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic withdrew with an injury.
