Prime Minister Milos Wuswik announced his resignation after the ongoing protest on Tuesday, which last year maintained the fall of the Deadly train station in Novi Sad, the second largest city of Serbia.
“This is my appeal to calm the passion and return to the dialogue.”
The resignation should be confirmed by the Parliament, after which there are 30 days to choose a new government or call Snap election.
Protests against the government of the populist President Alexander Person have been happening daily since the fall of the Novi Sad train station in November, killing 15 people. Vucevic is a close aide of the President.
The protesters blamed the incident on extensive corruption, brother -in -law and poor construction work and called for a Swifter judicial action against those who have been found responsible.
What did Wusvik say?
Addressing a press conference in Belgrade, the Prime Minister accepted the resignation as a “irreversible decision”.
He said, “I held a long meeting with the President of Serbia this morning. We talked about it. We talked about everything, and he accepted my arguments.” “So to avoid further complex things, so we do not increase further tension in society, I decided this.”
Vucevic is in the office for less than a year. Hey first served as Novi Sad Mayor from 2012 to 2022. He had his tenure with time renovation at the train station now collapsed in the city.
In recent years the main station was renewed twice. It was part of the infrastructure deal connected to the Chinese state company.
