Former German President Horst Kohaler died in Berlin on Saturday morning after a minor illness, Office of current German President Frank-Walter Steinmier Said in a statement.

Steinmier wrote in the condolence letter, “We have lost a highly respected and extremely popular person who has rewarded great things for our country and the world.”
“When Horst Kohaler was elected the federal President in 2004, he was almost unknown against the public,” Steinmier wrote on Saturday, “How soon he gained so much recognition and sympathy.”
Steinmear wrote, “He said he said and was usually done before long and deep reflections and discussions.”

Kohlar was an economist and a former managing director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before turning to politics and taking most of the German President’s formal office office.
