The Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, received the majority control of the MLA of New Delhi for the first time in 1998 on Saturday.
The BJP won more than 40 out of 70 seats in the Legislative Assembly of Delhi. BJP supporters took the streets on the streets after winning.
“Vikas wins, winning good governance,” Modi said in a post on X. “I tilt my beloved sisters and brothers of Delhi for this magnificent and historical mandate for @BJP4India. We are humble and honored to read these blessings.”
Indian internal minister and BJP member Amit Shah called Jeet “Indication of people’s trust in the view of Prime Minister Modi’s progress”.
This is a shock for the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was found on the anti -corruption platform in 2012. AAP, who leads Arvind Kejriwal, has been in power in Delhi, which is the capital of India since 2015.
Opposition Chitra Kejriwal congratulated BJP
“We accept the decision and congratulate the BJP,” Kejriwal said at a video address after the loss. Kejriwal served as the Chief Minister of Delhi from 2013 to 2014 and 2015 to 2024.
Kejriwal, along with other Delhi officials, who was detained in March last year, accused the city of receiving kickback in exchange for liquor license.
His arrest, which took place before the first phase of the 2024 Indian general election, was labeling as election intervention by the opposition. The German government said that India is expected to maintain “basic democratic principles” after arrest, with calling the German ambassador to India.
Kejriwal is out on bail after the decision made by the Supreme Court of India.
Fellow AAP member Atisi Marlena took over as Chief Minister of Delhi in September 2024, when Kejriwal left the post. He held his seat in 2025 Delhi elections.
Financial assistance on voters’ minds, Delhi infrastructure concern
AAP won the previous elections due to welfare programs, which were to help in searching as bad water and power. For the 2025 election, the BJP announced its anti-poverty initiative to offer monthly payments to poor women with the help of the elderly.
The BJP campaigned on implementing Delhi’s air quality. Indian News Outlet Indian Express said that the poor condition of Delhi’s roads and sewers removed the voters in the capital from the AAP.
After the BJP’s victory in Delhi, Modi’s government lost its parliamentary majority in the general election last year. Earlier this month, the Modi government started tax cuts for the middle class, amidst apprehension that economic growth is slowing down.
