Rare stradivaryus violin auctioned for $ 11.3 million – DW – 02/08/2025

According to Sothabi auction house, a 300 -year -old Stradivaryus Vicolin was sold in New York on Friday for $ 11.3 million (€ 10.9 million) at an auction.

The third most expensive musical instrument sold in “Jochim-Ma Stradivaryius” auction has become a musical instrument.

Sothabi had speculated that the violin could sell between $ 12 million and $ 18 million.

Sothabi’s chair Mari-Klaudia Jimnez said in a statement, “This exceptional violin represents the peak of craftsmanship and classical music history, equally to collectors and musicians who prove its unique sound and stored,”.

Violin is believed to have influenced German composer Johannes Brahm, when he wrote the famous “Violin Concerto in the Major” and was played during the 1879 premiere of the concerto.

The auction house said that the buyer chose to remain anonymous.

What is known about the stradivaryus auctioned

In 1714, produced by veteran Luthier Antonio Stradivari, violin is known for its extraordinary sound.

Sothabi said, “Jochim-maa distinguishes the stradivaryus, it is extraordinary sound-rich, complex and full of depth.”

The auctioned violin is considered one of the best functions of stradivari. According to the auction house, it was prepared during their “Golden Period”.

Joachim-Maa Stradivaryus comes from the owners of the famous formors Hungerian violin player Joseph Joseph Josef and Chinese composer C-Hon Ma.

After Ma’s death, his property donated a violin to the New England Conservative in Boston.

The conservative wants to use income to find scholarship.
