Voters in Kosovo started casting their ballots on Sunday as parliamentary elections were closed.
Around 2 million civilians are able to hear their voice in the election, many Kosovers are returning to vote from Abrode. Polling booths opened at 7 am (0600 GMT) and will be closed after 12 hours.
The election wants to determine 120 seats in the Republic of Kosovo. According to the Constitution of Kosovo, 20 seats are reserved for minority ethnic groups, which search as Serb, Bosniax and Turks.
Kurti is a clear favorite, but not likely to win a majority
Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s Vativandosje (self -determination) party is expected to get the most votes in the election. However, the Left Nationalist Party’s majority is unlikely as was done four years ago.
The government of Kurti has sought to strengthen Kosovo’s institutions and discover economic reforms in the form of high minimum wages and subsidies for women and children.
Vetevendosje has greatly surfed to seal the Serbian institutions in the ethnic albanian-funeral Kosovo, such as closing Serbian post offices and effectively banning the dinar.
Thesis tricks have angered the ethnic winals in North Kosovo, and increased tension between Kosovo and Serbia. Therefore, the US and the European Union have criticized Kurti for taking unilateral action in the north, fearing instability in the balcony.
Who are the main opposition parties?
Under the leadership of Prime Minister’s candidate Bedri Hamjahe, Kosovo (PDK) is the top opposition party in the Center-Rest Democratic Party elections and has focused on promoting the economy. DPK has slept to repair Kosovo’s relations with the US and the European Union.
The Democratic League, the center-right of another opposition party Kosovo (LDK), has called for increasing relations with the US and the European Union and more dialogue with Serbia. Its prime ministerial candidate is Economist Lumir Abdixicu.
The Serb List Party led by Zlaton ILEC has vowed to protect the rights of ethnic Serbian. The party has a close relationship with the Serbian government and Serbian President Alexander Person.
Kosovo became independent of Serbia with the support of the United States in 2008. Serbia does not recognize Kosovo as an independent country.
