Columbia’s Petro called a cabinet minister to resign – DW – 02/10/2025

Colombian President Gustavo Petro asked his cabinet members to resign on Sunday.

The demand came after criticizing the cabinet for its excellent performance for five straight hours on national television on Tuesday.

According to Petro, many of his ministers were lagging behind in the distribution of major projects.

Petro posted on social media platform X, “I have requested the resignation of ministers and directors of administrative departments.”

“There will be some changes in the cabinet to get maximum compliance with the program ordered by the people.”

By Sunday night, three ministers and two senior officials resigned.

Soon after Petro’s announcement on social media, Labor Minister Gloria Ramirez announced the resignation on X.

“Politics should move without communalism and without ambiguities,” he said.

Earlier, Environment Minister Susan Muhammad he will step down, citing his object for the appointment of Armando Benedatti, one of Petro’s close associates.

The leg has been investigated for illegal funding of the 2022 election campaign to Benteti and hence it is to reduce violence against his ex -wife.

Hence many ministers have criticized Laura Sarabia’s appointment as the Foreigan Minister, who were accused of involvement in the corruption scam.

Muhammad said that she is going to continue her role as the Chairman of the United Nations COP16 on biodiversity.

He has emerged as one of the most promising members of the Petro government when Petro is demanding to lead the global climate policy.

He is considered a possible successor of Petro at the end of his tenure in 2026.
