Balochistan blast killed at least 10 workers – DW – 02/14/2025

An explosion hit a vehicle carrying laborers in South -West Pakistan near the border on Friday, killing at least 10.

The workers were traveling to a market in Harynai, in which in the Balochistan province, when their vehicle was told by an instantaneous explosive equipment, a local officer, Salim Taron to the French AFP news agency.

“Ten mine activists were killed in an attack in Harynai district,” said another local officer, Shahzad Zahri. Local media outlets like Geo News put the death at 11, stating that many of the injured were in critical condition.

Harnai read some 160 km (100 mi) from Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province in South -West Pakistan.

Who was Balochistan’s attack?

Officials started investigating the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility. But the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a terrorist organization fighting for independence, is active in the province of Balochistan which reflects the borders of Afghanistan and Iran. The group usually targets Pakistanis from other provinces along with security forces.

Geo News said that most of the workers killed or injured on Friday came from Purana village of Khyber Paktankahwa.

The BLA has targeted Chinese projects in the region, arguing that outsiders are exploiting resource-rich Balochistan, while the bad residents have been left behind.

Responding to the latest attack, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif confirmed “commitment to work actively from the country to eliminate the danger of terrorism”.
