
A terrorist attack on the situation of the army has killed six soldiers in Northern Benin, where government troops have tried to curb cross -border attacks by armed Islamist groups, said the army spokesperson.
17 militants died in an encounter on Saturday, spokesperson Abenner Honfoga told late Reuters on Sunday, without giving more information.
Following the attack on the 1st January attack in Alibori’s Northern Department, the murder of dozens of soldiers was followed, which shares a limit with extremist-stricken Niger and Burkina Faso.
Benin and coastal neighbor Togo have faced attacks in recent years as the Islamic State Group and Al Qaeda have expanded their presence beyond the central Sahel region of West Africa in the north.
