Officials said the gunmen killed seven passengers in a bus traveling to Lahore in South -West Pakistan late on Tuesday night.
The bus was attacked in Barkhan district in the south -western part of Balochistan, which shares a border with Afghanistan and Iran.
The attackers told the AFP news agency that the attackers along with Punjab, Saadat Hussain broke the bus tires on a highway near the provincial border.
The gunmen then demanded to see the identity card of those people in the bus.
Hussain said, “Passengers belonging to Punjab province were taken off and killed by terrorists. They were parked and shot.”
Increase in attacks on Punjabi workers
It is not clear who is responsible for the attack. Balochistan has been surrounded by separatist violence for decades.
Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) is the most active group in the region. The group usually targets Pakistanis from other provinces along with security forces.
Recently, there has been a bee increase in attacks against the workers of Punjab. Last year, at least 39 people were killed in terrorist attacks that targeted ethnic Punjabis.
The BLA has targeted Chinese projects in the region, arguing that outsiders are exploiting resource-rich Balochistan, while the bad residents have been left behind.
