Wortmann invests millions in logistics expansion

The Wortmann Group is investing 20 million euros in a new fully automatic shuttle warehouse, which expands the logistics center in Detmold. Construction is planned for September 2025, and completion is to take place in the first half of 2027. “I firmly believe in the future of our company and our industry. However, we see it as our duty to improve our services again and to increase our delivery capacity, ”said Wortmann CEO Jens Beining to Schuhkurier. Against this background, almost a year ago, the decision was made to invest in the Detmold location – “and it is an investment in 100% technology”. “We want to create the basis for further growth and our customer service through even more dynamics.”
In view, the Wortmann boss has the needs of trade: “This now has different demands with regard to delivery. In the future, we will be able to do this for our trading partners all over Europe. Our investment is certainly also a statement for the entire industry. ”

With the shuttle warehouse, the storage capacity at the location in East Westphalia is to be increased by 1 million additional pair. The fully automatic high -bay warehouse, which was built in 2010, holds 3.5 to 4 million pairs of shoes on 27,500 pallets, which are handled at the Detmold location. This includes all brands belonging to the group, from Tamaris to Marco Tozzi and Caprice to Jana, S.Oliver and Peter Kaiser.

The shuttle warehouse will be connected to the pallet warehouse via a bridge with conveyor belts and enable an even faster and more needs-based supply of retail. The supplier capacity for the European markets is doubled by the extension – in the future 2,000 boxes, i.e. approx. 20,000 pairs, can be handled per hour. The combination of the shuttle bearing with the existing pallet warehouse enables large amounts of goods to store and transport them more efficiently, but also reliably handle small and short-term orders.

For some time now, Wortmann has been offering nos and individual couple orders through a service provider. With the new warehouse, these services should also take place faster and more efficiently. In the future, it should also be possible to deliver the goods on the same day even when orders are received later. The logistics center Detmold currently has 60 bridges with which more than 60 trucks can be loaded and unloaded. Here, too, there will be significant acceleration through the new camp.

Wortmann wants to be able to offer new service concepts for trading partners and better meet their requirements for flexibility, short delivery times and high availability. A focus is on the expansion of the carry-over and nos-over articles, which significantly contribute to sales stability in the trade, the company explains in an official message to the construction project. With the new warehouse, all logistics processes will be automated and networked in a digital supply chain.

For the planned new building, the Wortmann Group will expand the existing property at the Detmold location. According to Jens Bein, the technical planning of the project is completed; The approval procedures and tenders are currently underway. The planned object is a first construction phase, an expansion at a later date is possible.
