Puma wants to continue investing in environmental protection

The Herzogenaurach sporting goods manufacturer was able to maintain its A-ranking in the area of ​​climate protection. The company was now able to improve its position in another category. The evaluation in the areas of water security and forests was uploaded to A after Puma was rated with B or C last year. In this category, Puma is classified as “leader”. The categories go back to the Carbon Disclosure project, a non-profit organization founded in 2000 with the aim of publishing their environmental data and assessed accordingly.

“We are very proud of the improvements that Puma achieved in the areas of water security and forestry compared to last year,” said Veronique Rochet, Senior Director Sustainability at Puma. “Together with our persistent top grade for our climate policy, the CDP has recognized our management position in these areas. With our sustainability goals of the 2030 Vision, which we presented last year, we want to further improve our sustainability performance in the coming years. ”

In order to protect the waters and water supply near the factories of its partners, Puma, according to her own, ensures that regular wastewater tests are carried out and has introduced efficiency programs to reduce the amount of water required for the production of its products. Between 2019 and 2023, 2,401,002 m3 water could be saved per year, which corresponds to more than 7 million bathtubs.

In order to ensure that the leather used for its products does not lead to the deforestation of forests, Puma has joined the call of the Leather Working Group and Textile Exchange to obtain all cowhide from deforestation -free supply chains by 2030 or earlier. Almost all tanneries used for puma leather products have been certified by the Leather Working Group, and in 2023 99.4% of the paper and cardboard will either be certified and/or recycled.

As the company continues, it has set itself the goal of reducing its absolute SCOPE-1 and SCOPE-2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% (market-based) compared to the base year 2017. In addition, they have been committed to reduce the absolute SCOPE 3 greenhouse gas emissions of its supply chain and logistics by 33% compared to 2017.

In 2024, Puma released its new sustainability goals Vision 2030, which are intended to further improve the company’s performance in the areas of the climate, circular economy and human rights.
