In Ukraine, flexibility is important for three years of war coverage

In protest against the third anniversary of Russia’s Ukraine’s full -scale invasion, 20 coffins have been placed in the Republic Square in Paris.

Coffin -19 open and a closed – is a symbol of journalist hero by Russia. Sealed coffin is a reference to Victoria Rochan, who died in Russian detention under unclear conditions.

Overall, the conflict has contributed to the 13 deaths of local and foreign journalists and injured 47 cases of journalists because they cover the war, without any border, known as RSF. A Ukrainian journalist remains missing.

In cases, Russian attacks, bullets, shelling and journalists are being killed by Russian drones in cases covering Ukrainian military operations.

Among the affected people are Journalist Benjamin Hall of Fox News, who was seriously injured in an attack killing two of his colleagues in March 2022.

The hall said the road has been difficult for recovery of VOA.

“For the first six or seven months, I was in a military hospital in Texas. And when you are undergoing painful recovery, and you are in the ICU, it is cruel, ”the hall said. “The amount of pain – you don’t know what is coming next. But I take some easiest moments.”

Returning home, they say, and not only with changing injuries, including dissection, but have been harder than immediate treatment for their injuries with trauma.

Experienced reporters were traveling to Horanka village outside Kiev with their colleagues, French video journalist Pierre Zakrevsky and Ukrainian journalist Olexandra Kuvashinova, when a Russian mortar attack hit the vehicle twice. The hall was the only survivor.

“I had a goal, and he had to go home. And it was better to be better and walk again, learn to walk again, “Hey said.

“Before that, what is this journalist only. Suddenly, you are someone who has been injured, and people see you in a different way. And I think a part of that recovery was a bit difficult, ”the hall said.

Return to journalism was a priority for his recovery.

“And so, as soon as I could, I was trying to go back to the field, and I returned to Ukraine,” Hey.

On November 20, 2023, Hall returned to Ukraine and interviewed Priced Volodimier Zelansky. The journalist traveled by train and said it was a milestone in his recovery. When he was taken out after shelling, Hele left a train in significant health. Now he was returning to one.

“This especially matters a lot to me,” he said.

Covering the war in Ukraine changed the life of the hall, but he said that the biggest impact is the leg that is built on the ground by local journalists – “All journalists who cover the struggle.”

As a foreign correspondent, “You go a little bit somewhere, but you leave. I can imagine the weight of being out of the day only in the day and continuing reporting for three years,” the hall said.

This is the place where in flexibility, the manager of the Ukraine region for RSF said Polyne Mofis.

Local journalists put their lives at risk, worked under dangerous conditions and are constantly in danger of being hits kidnapped in captured areas, drone or sting.

“They all originally became a reporter in 2022,” said Mofis.

In war, it is difficult to find accountability. The Russian Ministry of Defense informed the Russia’s family in October 2024 that he had died in custody.

“Since then, we are seeking answers. We are asking Russia to give us an explanation about what happened to Victoria, ”said Maufris.

Russia has not yet clarified the cause of its death and has not returned his body to his family.

“We want to know what happened. We want Russia to understand what happened to Victoria Roshchana. And it is important that we continue working on it, and we [will] Continue asking those questions until we have answers, ”he said.

Roshchana, the International Women’s Media Foundation Awards in Journalism, disappeared while traveling in August 2023 to report on Russian-Quiz areas in August 2023. Her family came to know that she was one that she was one.

The 27 -year -old journalist was to return when he died.

Apart from the journalist, the risk of physical security is affordable and logical challenges, Moufriss said.

“Media outlets have a shortage of professional journalists, many left Ukraine in exile; Economic challenges; Destruction of communication towers and TV stations; For those journalists, the Ukrainian government is covering corruption with the government, ”said Mofis.

Maufrais stated that 329 media outlets in the list have been closed since the attack, often due to a decrease in advertising revenue.

For foreign reporters such as halls, the experience of covering war has shaped their lives.

He recalled that a young woman has been taken hostage on October. 7, 2023, Hamas held terrorist attack and for months.

“I realized that throughout my career, I never went to understand those who went through painful events that were in wars. But final, I did. So, I think it made me a better journalist, ”the hall said.
