The African hub’s post went viral. It seems that it has originated from TshiseKedi’s 20 February interview the new York Times,
However, in that interview, TshiseKedi did not offer American control over DRC’s mineral resources, nor did it promote any military intervention.
The DRC leader told the newspaper that he hoped that international pressure against Rwanda will bring stability to his war-affected nation, in collaboration with the investment of Western countries.
DRC President’s spokesperson Tina Salama clarified the issue on X in February 23.
“Setting the record straight: President Tskedi invited the USA, whose companies source strategic raw materials from Rwanda – the material looted from the DRC and smuggling through Rwanda, while the population is massacred – they are written directly – to buy them directly, right owners,” written by Salma.
Salama’s statement directly refutes the claim made by the African hub.
Eastern DRC is facing a violent armed conflict with the Rwanda-supported M23 rebels, which occupy important parts of the country.

In his X post, Salama further emphasized that the proposal of Tskedi was not exclusive to the US, but was also extended to the European country:

In February 2024, the European Union interacted with Rwanda on a $ 935 million deal with Rwanda to discover minerals as Tin, Tungsten and Gold.
TshiseKedi has accused Rwanda of looting DRC resources using M23 rebels. European participation is facilitating this illegal trade, Tiskedi said.
In response, the European Union has signed its deal with Rwanda and is considering approved Kigali for its role in DRC instead.
On 25 February, the United Kingdom banned Rwanda and stopped bilateral financial assistance, reflecting international pressure. As part of the restrictions, the UK stated that it would suspend defense training assistance to Rwanda and review the export license for the Rwandan Defense Force.
Additionally, the US Treasury Department banned James Kabrebe, an Rwanda’s official accused of facilitating support for M33 rebels.
Conclusion: TshiseKedi invited international companies to buy minerals directly from DRC. He did not request military intervention or promise control over DRC natural resources. His spokesperson made it clear that the mineral deal was open to many international players and was aimed at fighting Rwanda’s illegal resource trade.
