Officials said that after heavy snowfall in the region, at least 25 people are stuck under snow after an avalanche in India’s Himalayan state of Uttarakhand.
An avalanche hit a construction camp near the mountain border of India along with Tibet. At least three workers were injured.
The Indian Army posted on X, “The army’s avalanche rescue operations continue despite harsh weather conditions and continuous snow.”
What do we know about avalanche so far
The avalanche implicated 57 construction workers. Officials said 22 people managed to escape, while 10 were taken out by rescue teams.
According to senior police officer Rajiv Swaroop, three of them were taken to a military hospital for treatment.
“It is snowfall with strong winds,” state top police officer Deepam Seth told broadcaster NDTV. “Roads are completely blocked. We have deployed ice cutters to open the road.”
The avalanche and landslides are common in the Mountinus region like the Himalayas, during the winter season.
