Southern Africa energy experts and political leaders promised to improve energy at a summit in Botswana this week. Committings should still rely on coal in the country in the country, a major contributor to global warming.
16 Southern African Development Community, or SADC, as well as more than 500 participants from other African countries participated in the Energy Assembly.
A senior SADC program officer, Moses Ntlamelle said that chasing a more inclusive infection for cleaner energy was one of the resolutions that the regional representative adopted at the summit.

Boko said, “Energy in SADC region countries faces challenges related to poverty.” “It disrupts our economies, except millions of people, uniquely in rural areas, without access to important services like health, education, communication, among others. A clear call for an energy secure area, therefore, is necessary to run the industrialization and integration of our economies.
Most Southern Africa rely on coal for energy. Boko asked the region to cut its dependence on fossil fuels and speed up infection in green energy.
“We should encourage renewable energy and energy efficiency projects and initiatives, environmental safety and a clear roadmap for a justified and equal energy transition, which is relevant to the realities of our countries and region,” he said. “As a region, let us set tangible goals not only to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, but to reduce the use of renewal.”
Unus Alokor, a technical expert at the Intergonemental Organization East Africa Center for Renewable Energy and Efficiency, told the VOA that if Africa wants to accelerate its infection in permanent energy, many major elements are required.
“To have policies in the place and regulatory structure,” Alokor said. “What does it make that it sets a transparent, long -term, consistent goal, which requires some investors and development partners.”
Alokor said that access to finance is so important.
